Alanna Sharing Some Christmas Love with Other Kids

What a big heart, for such a little girl. Look what Alanna did with a recent Christmas tree that was given to her. This makes all of us at Boise's Got Faith so proud of her:
"Alanna and our family would like to share some great news! Throughout this journey so many people have come forward with gifts, cards, prayers, and so much support and love. Today we are able to give and it feels awesome!!! The wonderful staff at Washington Federal in Ontario purchased a tree from our local Festival of Trees. They would like to give it to Alanna. Well we found out the other day that the MSTI Peds clinic didn't have a tree this year and were going to paint one on the window as an alternative. Alanna and I knew the moment we heard the news that we were destined to give this tree to them. Alanna always talks about how she wants to make other sick kids smile and be happy at the hospital. She told me this will make all the cancer kids in Boise so happy when they have to come to clinic. Her selflessness and commitment to make others feel good melts my heart. Thank you Lord for blessing us with such a miraculous child! And thank you to everyone at Washington Federal, the Festival of Trees, and of course MSTI Peds for allowing us to give back during this holiday season!"

Alanna Makes a Trip to Boise Last Night

Sweet, tired little girl. Here's last night's update from Alanna's mom:
"Had to make a trip to Boise this evening because her red line (Raven, formally known as Cupcake) seems to be clogged and won't flush. Please pray for an easy fix without an admission!"

Alanna Update

An Alanna update shared earlier this week:
"2 days of MIBG scans down, 1 more to go! We are happy that we are able to do these procedures outpatient and in Boise so we can go home every night. But we don't like the 130 miles of driving we do everyday and will continue to do through September!"

Thank You Paradigm Construction Company!

Earlier this summer, while Brylee was spending months and months in a hospital room at Doernbecher Children's Hospital, we got in touch with Paradigm Construction Company to see if they would be willing to help us with a surprise for Brylee. Paradigm Construction donated a lot of time, all of the building materials and all of their expertise, and built Brylee a custom-made castle for her backyard. You can only imagine how surprised Brylee was when she returned home to Boise in June. These photos capture a bit of the happiness and joy that came from this big surprise. We encourage you all to give Paradigm Construction Company a BIG thank you by "liking" their page, and maybe leaving them a note of gratitude on their wall. They went above and beyond in showing their love and support for Brylee and her family during a time when some smiles were needed. A big thank you to our good friends at Paradigm Construction!

After Nearly a Month of Isolation, Alanna is Back Home with Her Family!

After 28 days of isolation at Doernbecher Children's Hospital, Alanna got to go home, yesterday. We are so thankful that she is now back home, and that her whole family are back together again sleeping under the same roof, after being separated for nearly a month. Thank you all for your prayers and ongoing support for this strong and courageous little girl and her family.

Alanna Birthday Update from St. Luke's in Boise

Alanna is sad that she is having to spend her 5th birthday in the hospital, but all of your birthday wishes and your prayers have helped in lifting her spirits and giving her some new and refreshed hope.  So thank you all for your birthday wishes and prayers. We wanted to share with you an update, that her mom just shared a few moments ago.

"She's had a rough few days but she is slowly returning to her normal self. Alanna has a blood infection that we are trying to treat with antibiotics. The scary part is that it is in her central line on her chest, so if we can't get the infection to clear, we will have to pull it out, let her heal, and have another one placed back in. All of this delays our Portland trip and stem cell transplant. So we need lots of prayers and good vibes that she can kick this infection out quickly! Today is her 5th birthday and she's been sad she has to spend it at the hospital, but we are trying to make the most of it. She even had a surprise visit from her siblings and cousins, and of course Aunt Nosey, and they decorated her room!"

This Evening's Alanna Update

A thankful and happy update this PM from Alanna's mom:

"Hi warriors!!! This amazing little trooper continues to defy the odds against her! Not even 48 hours post operation and she is out of intensive care and back in the annex! And guess who's her nurse??? That's right! Good ol' Slow Joe! She's determined to be independent and heal quickly so she can get back to choreographing more awesome moves!"

We love you very much, Alanna! You are steady in our prayers moment-to-moment throughout each and every day.

This Morning's Alanna Update

This morning's Alanna update, shared by her mom:
"No more breathing tube for this baby girl! She sat up this morning, says her tummy feels weird, and wants to go home. Although she has a few rough days of recovery ahead of her, she continues to defy the odds and go ahead of schedule! Keep those prayers flowing!"

An Alanna Update and Prayer Requests from Her Mom

Here's an update from Alanna's mom, along with some prayer requests that she has for you all to be praying for her little girl:
"Here are some pics of our impromptu journey to Boise the other day. As you can tell she was quite pale and tired. A few blood transfusions and she felt so much better. She even asked her nurse Cheryl to juggle with her and then was giving her fake prizes, like the dreaded salt and soda she hates rinsing with smile emoticon we will find out this evening if she can go home, but no matter what she has tests and scans tomorrow that she will be sedated for, and more the following day. We should know next week what our next steps will be. Praying for no scan anxiety, clear tests, and to be cleared for a successful surgery!"

This Morning's Alanna Update

This morning's update from Alanna's mom:

"Better safe than sorry...Alanna will be spending the next few days inpatient at St Lukes. She spiked a fever after her transfusions and has also needed an extra one. With her having scans and tests this week it may be easier to just stay down here. Please continue to send healing prayers to our girl!"

Beautiful & Courageous Alanna Featured on KTVB News

Last night, Alanna was rushed to the ER at St. Luke's as she was experiencing some nausea and had a nose bleed that just would not stop. Upon her arrival, they discovered that her platelets were low, and so she was admitted and had to stay in the hospital overnight to receive a blood transfusion. Please be praying for Alanna this morning, that the transfusion will get her platelet counts back up, so that she can be released from the hospital today and able to go home.

As you're praying for her this morning, in case you missed it last night on KTVB News, here's the story that featured our amazing and courageous little Alanna. Thank you to Will Hall of KTVB for putting together such a beautiful story for such a beautiful little girl:

Alanna Completes Her Fifth Round of Chemo Treatment

We are thankful today as Alanna has completed her fifth round of chemo.  Here's an update from her mom on all that went on at the hospital during that last day of this round of treatment:

"Hi warriors! I realized we didn't post our last day of chemo pics! The last day was filled with dance parties, Legos, and card games. The chemo hit her pretty good and she had a few sick episodes, but like always she bounced back like a champ! So we enjoyed our weekend with a parade, an ice cream social, and family time!"

Thursday, May 7, 2015

Alanna Update:

Alanna is currently undergoing her 5th round of treatment. We got to visit her yesterday in the hospital, and we were just so thankful that she was so happy and feeling so full of energy, as she showed us all of her dance moves. Please be praying that this same comfort, strength and joy continues for her (and the rest of her family) throughout the remainder of this round of treatment. Here's today's update from her mom:
"Day 3 of Round 5 is a pajama day! We decided we deserved a lazy day since we were exhausted from yesterday's activities. Alanna's appetite is puny, so she had ice cream for breakfast....well she made brother eat most of it. Then, she got to do the one thing she's been begging to do since she could talk: go to school! She went to the classroom here at the hospital and had some time with Teacher Colin. She was so happy and nervous for her first day. I went and snuck a few pics and let her have fun. She came back beaming and saying how much fun it was. She wants to go everyday!"

Thank you to Clown Connection!

Alanna Spends the Day with Her #1 Fan

Alanna got to spend some time on the ice yesterday with her #1 fan, Mike Dalhuisen of the Idaho Steelheads.  So beautiful to see all that Mike is doing to help bring some light and smiles to Alanna's life during her fight.  Here's yesterday's update from Alanna's mom:

"Alanna and Mike had their long anticipated ice skating date after today's appointment. They had the whole arena to themselves and I could hear her giggling the whole time all over the ice. She didn't really get the hang of skating, so he spent most of the time skating and carrying her. And at one point he pushed her all over in a chair! After all the fun she was asleep within 10 minutes on the way home"

Good News Continues with Brylee's Transplant

We are very happy to share this good news with you, as Brylee's transplant continues to proceed better than the physicians had expected. Please continue to keep this sweet girl and her family in your continual thoughts and prayers:
"Brylee continues to do well!!! Her rounding physician made a comment today stating "Go figure, the healthiest kiddo on the floor is the transplant kid." And we will take that...we continually say we like to be boring. We are starting to watch for engraftment signs showing that the new donor cells are replicating and thriving, but won't know anything definite for a couple more weeks.
Brylee's numbers are stabilizing meaning she has not needed any further transfusions and we can be hopeful she won't need anymore. She started back to school this week after Spring Break and otherwise finds other ways to entertain herself in her room each day. She is very creative in coaxing physicians to get their fingernails painted...thank you to Dr. Kram, her favorite physician for obliging. A friend stopped by to introduce himself and they were able to play in a modified way. As long as she doesn't leave her room and he doesn't come into her room (per isolation guidelines) they each could do their own legos sets with a little socialization. It was minimal talk and maximum building, but maybe the next encounter will generate a little more interaction."

Home Sweet Home

It's "home-sweet-home" for Alanna. Here is the happy update shared by her mom:
"Alanna is curled up in Daddy and Mommy's bed watching movies and cuddling her Lucky dog. She says this is right where she wants to be smile emoticon she is feeling a little tired and nauseous from chemo, but that's to be expected. We are all just so happy to be home!"

Thankful for this Brylee Update!

Brylee was another one our beneficiaries in 2014. She remains in Portland following her transplant, and from the sounds of the update below, her body is responding to the transplant better than could be expected. Of course, we are thankful that God has heard and answered so many cries and heartfelt prayers for this sweet girl, that we love so much. Boise's Got Faith loves you and is praying for you, Brylee!
"Uneventful has been the name of the game this week and we are very grateful!!! So far Brylee has been feeling well and playing each day since transplant. Naps are not even a part of her vocabulary and she continues to eat well and maintain her weight. This is so amazing because typically after a transplant there are about 4 weeks that are critical where symptoms are expected and watched closely due to the chemotherapy side effects, low blood counts and zero immunity. The longer Brylee maintains health during these initial weeks ahead of engraftment, the better.
Her spirits remain high and she continues to amaze the doctors with her resiliency. Several nurses and doctors have noted that they only remember one other transplant patient that did not experience mouth sores. She is showered in prayer and we are thankful for your continued dedication to keeping her in prayer."

Linzi Received Some Great News This Week

Very thankful for this news that was shared by Linzi's mom, earlier this week. Linzi was one of the Boise's Got Faith beneficiaries in 2014. We are all so grateful that she remains cancer-free, and that she received this clean bill of health from the doctor:
"Good report from the GI specialist in Anchorage. Linzi "looks great" and her physical exam is negative for anything concerning. Getting labs now to check her liver enzymes again. Linzi thinks it is so much fun to be back "at her hospital....she is running the halls and getting a snack with Dad in the caf. Thank you all for your prayers!"

This is the best news we could receive and just proves that prayers really do work! She will have her last chemo treatment of this round at 5am, and then will be able to go home tomorrow evening. Although she's been pretty tired, she's still fighting strong!"

An Encouraging Brynlee Update!

We are so excited to share this update from Brynlee's mom:

"Today is Brynlee's last big dose of chemo and the end of Interim Maintenance. Her numbers are awesome!! We are all on cloud 9 and couldn't be happier. Kellen and Ashlyn joined us today and I'm so glad they are here because we got some really fantastic news. We got word that Bryn will be completely done with chemo on her 8th birthday!!!!! We thought we had another 2 years from now before she was done but that's not the case. She will be done in September of 2016 and the last day happens to fall on her birthday!! We are so happy and so excited and so are the doctors.

Maintenance will begin on March 25th which will be another back poke. We will eventually be up here once a month for vincristine, every 12 weeks for back pokes and she'll be on oral chemo at home with steroids off and on as well. We will get more information on the 25th.

This Evening's Alanna Update

This evening's update from Alanna's Mom:
"Just checking in with our warriors: we are now at the Ronald McDonald house which is so wonderful and comfortable! We were able to spend the weekend with our Uncle Raymond and cousins Christina and Victor. We did a little exploring in Portland and went to OMSI on Sunday. Health wise Alanna is feeling fantastic! She's a little more tired than usual, but no other symptoms. Today is our rest day and tomorrow we have an appointment to check our counts. She will be at her lowest this week and when her counts come up next week, we will start the stem cell harvest. I will post more details about her medical treatment soon as I know we have a lot of warriors who are curious. Thank you all for your continued support and prayers. Our girl is battling hard!!

Please Keep Alanna in Your Prayers Today

Just a reminder for you all this morning to keep Alanna in your prayers as she is in Portland at Doernbecher Children's Hospital receiving another round of chemo and scheduled for a bone marrow harvest. Only her mom was able to go with her to Portland, which means she had to leave her dad, her baby brother and her sisters here in Idaho. Please pray for this little girl, that she would have the strength and confidence to fight strong this day, while surely missing her home, her dad and her siblings that are here in Idaho. Register Your Child for the Boise's Got Faith One-Mile Kids Run!

What better way for your kids to spend a spring Sunday afternoon, than getting outdoors and enjoying some fresh air, while running in honor of other kids fighting cancer? For those who have never been a part, Boise's Got Faith is all about the kids. Our event is kid and family-focused, and for only $15 your child can be registered to participate (many have called it the best kids race in all of Boise). Registration includes a Boise's Got Faith t-shirt, a post-run meal provided by Famous Dave's of Meridian, as well as bounce houses, face painting and lots of other fun activities for your kiddos to enjoy. Also, each child will receive a medal as they cross the finish line, which will be handed out by some very special local celebrities. The best part of all? 100% of the $15 registration fee goes directly to help support Alanna and Brynlee's families as these two beautiful little girls courageously fight cancer. Be sure to register your kids, and make sure their friends register, too! Your family won't want to miss out on this very special once-a-year event! REGISTER HERE!

Thank you Atlas!

Today, we recognize and thank Atlas Products for being the catalyst behind the corporate giving that has developed through the years for Boise's Got Faith.  Atlas was the very first sponsor of Boise's Got Faith when our organization was first established back in 2012.  Every year since then, Atlas Products has covered the cost of t-shirts, facilities and operational expenses that are involved to make our event happen.  We are thankful for Atlas Products, as their sponsorship ensures that every single dollar received from registrations and donations to Boise's Got Faith, goes directly to the kids that we are serving.  Thank you Atlas for your ongoing support in all that we do, and for helping Brynlee and Alanna as they bravely fight in 2015!

Please Pray for Alanna and Her Family, Today!

Please keep Alanna and family in your prayers. She and her mom are off for a 3-week stay at Doernbecher Children's Hospital in Portland for a round of chemo and a stem cell harvest while her dad (and "army") hold down the fort here with Alana's three sisters and 5-month-old baby brother. Please be praying for all of them!
...and don't forget to show your support by getting registered for this year's BGF fun run, community festival and silent auction.  100% of the proceeds go to Alanna's and Brynlee's families to help with expenses related to their battles with cancer!

Thank you to Advocates for Inclusion!

Since our very first year, Advocates for Inclusion has been a strong solid partner providing not only financial assistance, but hours and hours of volunteer service to our organization, as well.  The bottom line is, Boise's Got Faith would not be possible without the help and support of the beautiful hearts at Advocates for Inclusion.  So, today, we want to warmly recognize Advocates for Inclusion for all that they have done in making Boise's Got Faith the amazing event of love that it is today.  Thank you Advocates for Inclusion for all that you do to support and love these kids that we serve!

Meet Alanna & Brynlee!

Boise's Got Faith proudly introduces you to 4 year-old Alanna Schiffhauer and 6 year-old Brynlee Nebeker:

Alanna is a very social, determined 4-year old from Fruitland who loves playing outside, coloring, and anything “Frozen.”  She takes her role of “sister” very seriously, placed right in the middle of her four siblings.  At the end of January, Alanna was diagnosed with stage IV Neuroblastoma.  She has just finished round one of chemotherapy in Boise.  In the coming months, she and her mom will have to leave her dad, baby brother and sisters to travel to Doernbecher Children’s Hospital in Portland to have surgery and undergo a bone marrow transplant. Her first trip to Portland for another round of chemotherapy and a bone marrow harvest is scheduled for next week.

Brynlee is an inquisitive, happy, and always smiling 6-year-old from Twin Falls.  This active kindergartener loves baking, painting, and music.  She also enjoys spending time with her mom, dad, and little sister, Ashlyn—especially doing any kind of outdoor activity.  This past summer, she was diagnosed with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia (ALL).  She has undergone 7 months of trips back and forth to Boise for chemotherapy.  She is anxious to begin this next stage of chemo—maintenance—so that she can get back to school and return to just being a kid again!  She has almost 2 more years of chemo and close monitoring before she will be considered “cured.”

We encourage everyone to honor and support Alanna and Brynlee in 2015, by registering for the 4th Annual Boise's Got Faith Event, which will be held at Julia Davis Park on Sunday, May 3rd at 1pm.  Registration for this year's event will open on Sunday March 1st.  As we plan and prepare for this event, we will be posting more information and making announcements with respect to the event, auction details, and ways that you can volunteer, help and support.  So, please be sure to continue to check in at for updates.  Also, be sure to "LIKE" us on Facebook, as we will also be posting many updates, photos and videos there, as well.

Above all else, we ask you all to please keep Alanna and Brynlee in your continual daily thoughts and prayers.  One thing that we have all learned in the past few years of doing this, is how powerful prayer truly is.  So, please pray, please register and we will look forward to seeing all of you Julia Davis Park as we stand together in honor and support of these two beautiful girls.
